Not too far from the abandoned blue house appeared many scattered huts and benches in the midst of long grass, piles of garbage and what appeared to be a wooden outline of an old structure. The restricted patch of land and the random platforms made me associate it with how powerful the environment really is and what haunting or special messages it can symbolize for people. Relating this back to the text Spaces and Places of Popular Culture, in regard to both categories of nature; the threatened and threatening by mankind came to mind (O’Brien, Szeman, 2010). What really occurred in this destination, why was it not being occupied anymore, was it not treated properly or as a fragile environment? As humans, we really do have the biggest impact on the environment, so being more aware of your footsteps, being respectful and valuing the artistic beauty behind nature is beneficial. The outdoors can influence many connections that differ among people as in with peers, nature in general, or even on a culture basis; as it can illustrate different things in different times and different place for different people. (O’Brien, Szeman, 2010). This stood out to me in a general context because no matter what location or environment regardless of time, every person will see, think and feel things differently at their own individuality. As can viewing an image or partaking within urban exploration.
